Depression

depression

Everyone can feel a little down or blue at times, especially when an unpleasant situation occurs such as a relationship break-up, the death of a pet, or failing a college class; but these feelings usually pass within a few days. Depression is different; it persists for weeks, months, or longer, if left untreated. Individuals can neither shake the hopelessness, guilt, irritability, sadness, and fatigue nor “just get over it” as friends or family may say. The depression interferes with performing daily activities. Although many people do not seek help for depression, treatment is typically very effective and often includes counseling and medication.
