Web Designer

The Web Designer program provides students with the basics of website design. Graphics, animation, cascading style sheets, typography, navigation, Javascript, accessibility and usability are emphasized throughout the degree courses. Students will design websites using a variety of techniques and software applications.

Certificates

Web Coding Certificate (011D)
Students completing the Web Coding certificate will learn software and coding principles required to construct websites. Emphasis will be placed on good XHTML coding techniques. Students will learn to code for specific browsers and will learn how to include animation and sound on websites. View Cost Sheet.

Web Design Certificate (011E)
Students completing the Web Design certificate will learn software and design principles required to construct websites. Emphasis will be given to graphics, colors, tiles, image maps, rollovers, navigation bars, alignment, composition, Web typography and the use of HTML editors. Students will learn to design for specific browsers and will learn how to include animation and sound on websites. View Cost Sheet.

Accelerated Degree Option

Students with an associate or bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college may earn a Web Designer in Applied Science degree by completing at least 27 semester credit hours of program-related course work. A plan of specific courses required for the degree must be obtained from the program coordinator and approved by the dean of the Business Division and the vice president for Instruction. Only those courses completed at Southwestern Illinois College, and not included as part of the requirements for a previously earned degree or certificate, can be considered for this option. Students must meet all institutional requirements for the Associate in Applied Science degree.
