Proof of Completion of Prerequisite Courses

Keyboarding or Typing

Applicants must have completed the following computer courses:

  • One year of high school or one semester of college in Keyboarding & Document Processing (College Keyboarding & Document Processing must equate with SWIC’s OAT 171, 172 or 273)
    OR
  • Students may demonstrate competency of the keyboarding/typing requirement by taking a proficiency examination. Contact the HIT program coordinator at 618-235-2700, ext. 5551 to schedule testing. Applicants must type a minimum of 40 words per minute with three or less errors to pass the examination.

Scheduling Proficiency Exam

  • It is recommended applicants schedule the proficiency exam as soon as possible to allow sufficient time to complete the keyboarding coursework if required.
