Who has to take this Constitution test?
Anyone who wants to get their GED in Illinois must take the constitution test. 
 
What's going to be on the test?
There are 60 multiple choice question on the test.   Each question has four possible answers.  The questions on the test will cover the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Illinois Constitution, and the U.S. Flag code.  
 
How many questions do I have to get right?  
To pass the test, you must correctly answer at least 30 questions.  
 
Where and when can  I take the Constitution test?
Most adults will take the Constitution test during the rest of the GED testing.  The Constitution test is usually given last at the testing sites in Madison and  St. Clair counties, and people who have already passed the test don't have to stay during that time.  More information about GED testing dates and sites in Madison, St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph counties can be found at the GED testing webpage.

If you are a student in a GED class at Southwestern Illinois College, your teacher may be able to give you the constitution test during the class.   
What happens when I pass the test?
If you take the constitution test during the rest of the GED test, you'll find out if you passed or not when you get your GED test scores back.  

If you take the constitution test while in class at SWIC, your teacher may be able to grade it for you.  You will then be given a certificate which you would take with you to the GED test.  

What do I need to prove I've passed the Constitution test?  
You must take some written proof that you have passed the Constitution test to the GED test.  
If you passed the test in an Illinois high school, you will need a letter from the high school or a copy of your transcript which shows you've passed.
 
If you passed the test in a GED class through SWIC, you will be given a certificate which you can give to the GED tester.  
 
What happens if I don't pass the constitution test?
You will have to take the test again.  You can take the constitution test without paying any fees.  
 
I took the constitution test in high school in Illinois.  Do I have to take it again?
Maybe not.  If you took the constitution test in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade in Illinois, then you might not have to take it again.  You must contact the high school and ask them to provide you with a letter of proof that you passed the test or a copy of your transcript which shows you've passed the test.   
 
I took the constitution test in high school in Missouri. Do I have to take it again?
Yes, you have to take it again.  A constitution test in any other state will not count.  The state of Illinois wants you to know about the Illinois Constitution before it awards you a GED certificate.   
 
I took the constitution test in Illinois but not during high school. Do I have to take it again?
Yes, you have to take it again.  Illinois requires a test in grade or elementary school and again in high school.  
 
I think I took the Constitution test in high school, but I'm not sure.  What should I do?  
Call your high school and ask.  If you passed the Constitution test, it will be found on your records.
