If you'd like to work in the green job market, but need a required certification, Southwestern Illinois College can help you!
Home Energy Auditor Training sessions will take place in East St. Louis, Granite City and Belleville through May. The class prepares you for the Building Performance Institute certification exam. Successful completion of the course and passage of the certification exam prepare you for work as a building analyst.
"This course is a great opportunity for construction workers and other individuals to enhance their credentials for emerging green jobs," notes Program Coordinator Melissa Snelson. "When a successful candidate passes all requirements for Building Performance Institute certification, the credential is recognized throughout the United States. If you certify in Illinois, you may move employment around the U.S. and carry your credential with you."
Individuals with BPI certification will help "to improve the comfort, health, safety, durability and energy efficiency of America's existing houses." They may work in state-facilitated energy improvement programs, as managers for the industry that completes energy assessment to reduce energy costs, may provide home inspections and Local Building Code compliance, and may assist private homeowners in reducing energy consumption and costs.
Upcoming Home Energy Auditor Training classes are free for applicants who qualify: must have a high school diploma or GED; be a resident of St. Clair or Madison counties; have a minimum TABE score of 10.0; be unemployed or underemployed; and test drug free.
