High School Equivalency Test Preparation

Adult Basic Education provides free classes preparing persons for High School Equivalency exams including the GED and HiSET. Instruction includes all subject areas of: social studies, science, language arts, and math. Classes are short in duration and focus on both the basic content of the test and test-taking skills. 

Classes are offered each semester at the Belleville, Sam Wolf Granite City and Red Bud campuses and the East St. Louis Community College Center as well as many extension sites.

High School Equivalency Certificate Ceremony

Wednesday, May 17
7 p.m. 
Belleville Campus Varsity Gym


Graduates* should plan to arrive at the college by 6 p.m. Come in the east end of the main complex near the gym. There will be guides in the lobby to help you locate your room.  

A reception in the cafeteria to celebrate your success with the your guests and instructors will immediately follow the ceremony.

Graduates will be provided with caps and gowns to wear at the ceremony. The cap and tassel are yours to keep as a reminder of this memorable evening (only graduates who attend the certificate ceremony will receive a cap and tassel).

If you would like to have a professional picture taken or a photograph taken by your friends or family you may do this immediately following the ceremony. There is no charge for the caps/gowns, ceremony or reception. However, any of the following may be purchased:

Professional Photographs - $25 - $65, cash only. Cedarleaf Photography of Belleville will take individual photographs immediately following the ceremony in room 1411.   

DVD of the Ceremony - $3. The College records the entire ceremony. Orders are taken after the ceremony at a table near the cafeteria.  Payments must be made in cash at the time the order is placed. DVDs may be picked up in the Adult Education Offices at Belleville, Granite City and East St. Louis after May 31

*OFFICIAL High School Equivalency certificates and transcripts are issued through the local Regional Office of Education in the graduate’s county of residence. Certificates presented at the High School Equivalency ceremony are for presentation purposes only.

To obtain an official certificate and transcript, graduates must go to the Regional Office of Education in the county they live(d) in at time of testing and bring:
*a photo ID and proof of passing the IL/US Constitution tests
*$16 fee for the certificate ($10)/transcript ($6)
