Web Development and Administration
About the Program
The Web Development and Administration program provides the technical skills and knowledge required for the design, development, and maintenance of web sites and services. Students completing the program may be responsible for all technical aspects of a website, including performance issues. In addition to web specific applications, instruction includes commonly used programming languages, operating systems and software packages.

Web Coding Certificate (011D)
This 12-hour certificate emphasizes HTML coding skills on the Web. It uses existing courses in the parent program. View Curriculum>>
Web Design Certificate (011E)
Students completing the Web Design Certificate will learn software and design principles required to construct Web sites. Emphasis will be given to graphics, colors, tiles, image maps, rollovers, navigation bars, alignment, composition, Web typography, and the use of HTML editors. Students will learn to design for specific browsers and will learn how to include animation and sound on Web sites.

Java Programming Certificate (011F)
This 6-hour certificate demonstrates mastery of critical Java programming skills necessary to administrate the Web. It uses existing courses in the parent program. View Curriculum>>
Accelerated Degree Option
Anyone who has completed an associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college may earn a Web Development and Administration Associate in Applied Science Degree by completing 27 semester hours of related course work. Written approval as to specific courses to be taken must be obtained from the Coordinator. The courses must be completed at Southwestern Illinois College after a degree is earned. Students must meet all institutional requirements for the Associate in Applied Science Degree.

MISSION SUCCESS
Students interested in a degree program need to participate in MISSION SUCCESS, an assessment, welcome and counseling program designed to assist you with entry to Southwestern.COMPASS, a computerized assessment program designed to identify your skill levels in math, reading and language usage, is the first step in MISSION SUCCESS. Next, the welcome session provides you with information about the college, its resources and services. In the counseling session, you can discuss your academic needs and plans with a counselor. You will receive an interpretation of your assessment scores so that you can prepare to register for classes.
Admission to the program
The admission procedures for the Web Development and Administration Program is described fully in Southwestern's catalog and are in accordance with Illinois law. Southwestern's CIS programs are open to any student who is a high school graduate; has passed the GED high school equivalency examination; or who is transferring from an accredited college or university.

Graduation Requirements
A student must complete 69 credit hours to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Web Design and Administration. The Web Design Certificate requires 16 credit hours. The Web Coding Certificate requires 12 credit hours and the Java Programming Certificate requires 6 credit hours. Other specific graduation requirements can be found in the front section of Southwestern's catalog.
