December 2007 News Releases
GIVE THE GIFT OF THEATRE TO YOUR CHILDREN THIS YEAR
You could give your children one of the best gifts of their lives this holiday season - an introduction to theatre.
College Activities staff at the Southwestern Illinois College Belleville Campus can be your elves! Tickets are available now for the Spring 2008 Children's Series, which brings live theatre to young audiences.
Designed for children ages 4-8, the series includes four live theatrical programs offered Wednesdays throughout the spring at the Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave. Shows begin at 6:30 p.m. in the campus' Main Complex Theatre.
The curtain rises Wednesday, Feb. 20 with Bob Lisaius' "Dinoman." Dinosaur tracks lead right to SWIC! In the first show of the series, Dinoman takes the audience on a time ride from Precambrian to Quaternary with a few stops in different epochs and ages. Suddenly, he discovers footprints, very LARGE footprints, and the hunt is on! Dinoman tells all in song, story and magic. Ultimately, three huge dinosaurs are found.
The second program, "The Ant and the Grasshopper," is Wednesday, March 19. Join this musical romp through the insect world courtesy of a family of hardworking ants and a zany ukulele-playing grasshopper that can't stand the mention of the word "work." They all discover the importance of hard work and the value of fun and friendship in this production by the Imaginary Theatre Company.
April brings two programs - "The George Washington Follies" and "Truly Remarkable Loon."
"The George Washington Follies" by Face to Face Productions Ltd. takes the stage Wednesday, April 19. With the help of famous leaders from the past, as well as audience members, George Washington will explore what it means to lead his fellow Americans as the greatest democracy the world has ever seen takes shape. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
The series concludes with the ever-popular "Truly Remarkable Loon." The perennially purple Truly Remarkable Loon returns to the SWIC stage with extraordinary juggling and amazing balancing feats. Truly Remarkable Loon has performed at colleges, festivals and fairs across America. The whole family will enjoy his non-stop, action-packed performance.
Series tickets are $15 each and include a seat to all four shows. To order by telephone using Visa, Mastercard or Discover, call 618-235-2700, ext. 5561. Tickets are also on sale in the College Activities office at the Belleville Campus, Main Complex - Room 1243.
