Mondays, 2 - 4 p.m.

Pronounced "we", this home video game is a fun way to get together with your friends and play baseball, golf, bowling, etc. by using a hand-held remote and television screen. You'll get a little stretching exercise and a lot of fun when playing. After a little practice, you'll even be able to impress your kids and grandkids with your knowledge when they talk about their Wii! The game and flat-screen television are located in the Activity Room, lower level, at PSOP. For more information, call 618-234-4410, ext. 7016.

Yes, we're taking our Dine Around on the road and are going to the Boathouse Restaurant in Forest Park. The menu features Angus burgers, hand-tossed pizzas, salads and signature dishes such as fish and chips. After dinner, enjoy the view of the beautiful Post-Dispatch Lake from the patio or take a leisurely boat ride. Before returning home, we'll visit a St. Louis and Route 66 Landmark - Ted Drewes for some frozen custard, a summertime favorite! Cost for this trip is $25 per person and includes motor coach transportation. Dinner and frozen custard are on your own. Pick up is at the west end Schnucks at 3:30 p.m. Approximate return is 8 p.m.

We'll start the day at Fast Eddie's Bon-Air in Alton where you can get homemade bratwurst for only 99 cents or shrimp for 29 cents each! Try the Big Elwood Steak on a Stick for only $2.99! After lunch we'll cruise up the great river road and enjoy the beautiful summer scenery. Before turning around for home, we'll stop at the Pere Marquette Lodge for pie a la mode with iced tea or lemonade. The lodge was built by hand by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression and is made of limestone and massive timbers. Enjoy the beautiful view from the balcony overlooking the Illinois River. Cost for this trip is $35 per person and includes motor coach transportation and pie a la mode and drink with tax and tip at Pere Marquette. Lunch is on your own. Pickup is at the west end Schnucks at 10 a.m. Approximate return is 4 p.m.

No artistic talent is needed for this fun craft. Take home butterflies, hummingbirds or trees painted on a small surface. This is just for fun, a great way to spend a warm July afternoon. The class will be led by a PSOP participant, Hilda Christ. All supplies will be provided for a donation. Call for reservations.

Friday, Aug. 1, 11 a.m - 2 p.m.

Spend the afternoon in style! Renew, reuse, refresh. All lovely outfits are furnished by local thrift stores. Tickets are $10, which includes entertainment, fashion show and a scrumptious lunch of quiche, spinach strawberry salad, ambrosia and raspberry tea, and of course cheesecake for dessert. Attendance is limited, so get your ticket soon. We sold out last year! If you would like to participate, decorate, help with the fashions, be a model...please contact the Activities office!

Try your luck in the all-new Isle of Capri Casino in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It's just $35 for charter bus and a wonderful buffet at Farmers Pick buffet, where everything is fresh off the farm. And of course $5 back. You might come home with cash in your pocket, but at the very least you will have a full belly and a nice summer drive in the country. Monday, Sept. 8

Learn about 19th century gardening techniques and heirloom plants and herbs at the Deutschheim State Historic Site Garden. Enjoy the river overlook and the more than 2,000 trees surrounding a gazebo and chapel at Hermann Hill Gardens. Visit the commercial garden at Pea Ridge Forest Arboretum and tour the chapel and cottages of Wine Country Weddings. Finish at an alpaca ranch! We will stop for ice cream (on your own) on the return. Cost is $88 per peson. Depart the Schnucks on North Belt West at 8 a.m. and return will be approximately 8 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 2

Begin with a drive to Kimmswick, MO, followed by lunch at the Blue Owl and time to visit the quaint shops. We return via paddlewheel! Cost is $99 per person if reserved/purchased before May 20. If reserved/purchased May 21 or later the cost is $125 per person. Cost includes lunch and transportation. Deadline for reservations is June 19. Pick-up points are the Holiday Inn in Alton at 7:30 a.m., then Schnucks on North Belt West in Belleville at a time TBD. Return to Belleville will be about 5:15 p.m. and Alton about 6:15 p.m.

Back to Top Travel & Activities Reservation/Cancellation Policy Changes

We are making some changes to provide everyone with a fair opportunity to sign up for trips, avoid empty seats and keep trips affordable.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2014 - To make a reservation for a day trip, dial the extension listed with the trip description. The recording will ask you to give your name and phone number, the date and name of the trip, and the names of people you are making reservations for. You will then be given seven working days to complete the registration form in the PSOP newsletter and mail it or bring it to the Activities & Travel office along with your payment. Any payment not received within seven days will result in your reservation being cancelled.

If a cancellation is received seven days or more before the trip, then a full refund will be given. If a cancellation is received seven days or less to the start of the trip, and a replacement is found, then a full refund less a $5 processing fee will be given. If no replacement is found, no refund will be given. Special cancellation policies may apply if the trip involves the purchase of non-refundable tickets.
