Sex Crimes Prevention Act 2002

In accordance with 730/150 Illinois Compiled Statute (ILCS), Sex Offender Registration Act, and 730/152 ILCS, The Sex Offender and Child Murderer Community Notification Law, adult criminal sex offenders who must register with law enforcement officials also must notify those officials of their enrollment or employment at institutions of higher education within the state. The language defines any registrant who "is employed, carries on a vocation, or is a student" at an institution of higher education in the state. The requirements apply to those who are:

  1. Enrolled in any institution of higher education in the state on a full-time or part-time basis
  2. Have any sort of full-time or part-time employment at an institution of higher education in the state, with or without compensation, for more than 10 days, or for an aggregate period exceeding 30 days in a calendar year. Any changes in employment or education status is to be reported to the registering jurisdiction.

Sex offenders (this includes out-of-state employees and students) must register with the:

Out-of-state employees and students shall register within 10 days of enrolling in school or beginning employment. The following law enforcement agencies have jurisdiction over Southwestern's campus:

    chief or sheriff of the city or county in which the off-site course is being offered

The registrant's information should then be forwarded to campus police of the school or institution of higher education where the adult criminal sex offender is employed, carries on a vocation, or is a student. The Department of Public Safety, Investigation Section, is the central repository for registered sex offender information for Southwestern.

In accordance with the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act, the college must notify the Southwestern Illinois College community of where this information can be obtained. To request information regarding registered sex offenders, including those enrolled or employed at Southwestern Illinois College, visit the Illinois State Police Web site (Outside Link), Registered Sex Offender Information; Southwestern's Department of Public Safety Web site; or visit during normal operating hours excluding holidays per the published college calendar.

The following information may be released about adult offenders:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Place of employment
  • School attended
  • Offense or adjudication
  • Offender's photograph
  • Such information that will help identify the sex offender

Adjudicated juveniles are NOT posted on the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Web site (Outside Link); therefore, juvenile information shall NOT be released.
