Artist Dale Threlkeld stands in front of his large oil painting, "The Grand Voyage," a new addition to the Foundation / College permanent art collection. Threlkeld, a retired member of the art faculty at Southwestern Illinois College, has been a leader in the planning and development of an art gallery on the Belleville Campus. A popular instructor, he is also an accomplished artist with his work displayed around the country. Threlkeld's painting was provided by a gift to the College Foundation from Gary and Lucia Graham.
These companion paintings, "After Early Evening Milking on Dairy Day, Marcoot Jersey Farm" (right) and "Labor Day Noon at Carter's Corner" (below) are gifts to the Southwestern Illinois College Foundation in memory of Glenn Horrell. A well-known business and civic leader, Glenn was a longtime member of the Foundation Board of Directors and a strong advocate for the college campus in Red Bud. The Horrell Family commissioned one of the pastels, the second was commissioned by the Foundation and secured with gifts received from Glenn's friends, colleagues and associates. The artwork is on display at the Red Bud Campus. Atkinson, of Springfield, concentrates on recording scenes from the vanishing American family farm. His work is in demand throughout the country.
