From 12:30-1:30 p.m., after a brief tour of the exhibitions, children and their adults will create art related to the current exhibits. $5 per session. Please call by the Wednesday before the session you wish to attend.

Home School - Tape Vases
2nd Wednesday of each month, 10-11:30 a.m.
Our home school art program offers students from K - 12th grades the opportunity to visit and tour a gallery and create your own hands-on art activity. $10 per student.

High School Student Series
Thursdays, Feb. 2 - May 4, 2017
From 4:15-6 p.m. each Thursday, students will be guided in a variety of artistic and museum practices, receive portfolio and college preparation, and participate in discussions about careers in the arts. In this program students have the opportunity to receive college-level arts instruction while still in high school.
The program is open to any high school student in grades 9 - 12. Cost is $60 per semester. Students must register. Attendance is limited to 20 students each semester. Fall and spring semesters available.

Grade Art Intensive: Drawings and Illustrations
Monday – Thursday, June 12 – 15 from 1-4 p.m.
This intensive offers students the opportunity to challenge their drawing and illustration skills while experimenting with traditional and contemporary techniques and concepts. Students will work with a wide range of materials and surfaces while investigating drawings
and illustrations of artists from all over the world. Fee: $95
Teen Art Intensive: Painting and Drawing
Monday – Thursday, June 19 – 22 from 1-4 p.m.
This intensive offers students the opportunity to work with contemporary and traditional painting and drawing media
in a challenging and creative environment. Successful and advanced compositional design of the 2-D work will be a main objective of instruction. Fee: $95
6th – 8th
Grade Art Intensive: Sculpture
Monday – Thursday, July 10 – 13 from 1-4 p.m.
Through the use of traditional and contemporary materials, students will learn to create non-functional sculpture. Compositional design, along with the formal elements such as positive and negative space, form, and line will be explored. Fee: $95
Teen Intensive: Sculpture
Monday – Thursday, July 17 – 20 from 1-4 p.m.
This intensive will challenge students to investigate a myriad of sculptural design principles with close examination of form and composition. Students will work with a variety of traditional and non-traditional media, while also learning about art history and art critique. Fee:
Deadline to register for classes is four business days prior to the start of the class. (Exception - The Creative Kids students may continue to register up to the start of the class.) Please note, we accept a maximum of 20 students in each class and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Schmidt Art Center will not offer make-up classes or prorated class fees, so please check your calendar closely before registering. The instructor will make every reasonable effort to assist the student with what was missed.
Refunds, Withdrawals, Low Enrollment
Tuition will be refunded, less a 10 percent processing fee, only if you withdraw from classes at least 10 days prior to the beginning of the class. No refunds or credits will be given for withdrawals after the deadline except for documented medical reasons. There are no exceptions to this policy.
If class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified three business days prior to class beginning. You may choose another class if available or a refund will be issued.
If Southwestern Illinois College is closed due to inclement weather, Schmidt Art Center classes will also be canceled. That information will be on the Schmidt Art Center phone message at 618-222-5ART (5278) and on the college’s website at
www.swic.edu. A refund will be issued for the canceled class.
Please dress appropriately as art can get messy. Smocks are not provided. For the safety of the student, flip-flops or open-toed shoes are not encouraged.
All supplies are included in the class fee unless noted otherwise.

Safety and Behavior Policies
Supervision is provided in the building during class time only. If parents/guardians are responsible for transportation, please make certain to pick the student up promptly at the end of class.
The Schmidt Art Center reserves the right to have a student removed from a class if it is necessary for the safety or well-being of the student or others. Southwestern Illinois College Public Safety officers are on duty at all times and will act in an appropriate manner toward misbehavior and conduct. The Schmidt Art Center reserves the right to deny future enrollment, and if required to leave, the parent/guardian will be contacted and a refund will not be issued.
