Sample a growing career field! Learn to weld for art and repairs

Selsius Corporate and Career Training at Southwestern Illinois College is offering two of its most popular workshops this spring: Women in Welding and Welding for the Average Joe.

The three-session workshops will be held at the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus, 4950 Maryville Road. Gailyn Cornell, who has 30 years of welding experience, will provide training for artistic creations 

and repairs and offer a sample of welding as a career.

The Need for Maintenance Technicians is Growing

American companies are struggling to find qualified workers that have the skills to maintain new technologies. A joint study by Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute found that manufacturing executives were concerned about the workforce skills gap. Seventy-four percent of those surveyed reported that “workforce shortages or skills deficiencies in production roles are having a significant impact on their ability to expand operations or improve productivity.” 5% of skilled production jobs remain unfilled due to not finding applicants with the right skills.
