Selsius™ is home to the WIA department at Southwestern Illinois College. The WIA staff provides assistance with job search and placement skills to all individuals. For unemployed individuals who qualify under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), they provide limited academic counseling for compliance with WIA requirements, liaison with funding agencies and vouchers for required textbooks and supplies.

What is WIA

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides an opportunity for unique workforce preparation to help job seekers and those who want to advance their careers.  The focus of the act is to train, educate and help individuals reach their employment needs, while helping businesses meet their needs for skilled workers.

Key to the WIA program are easy one-stop centers for employment, education, and training information services and training that allow adults to reach and retain self-sufficiency.

Who does our WIA staff help?

WIA Participants
  • Everyone is welcome to receive career and job outlook information for the local area.
  • Unemployed, underemployed and untrained adults can receive job training.
  • Dislocated workers can find assistance in returning to the workforce.

Access to Services at Southwestern Illinois workNet Centers

The Mid-America Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB) is the governing board for the workNet centers.
