Sam Wolf Granite City Campus Student Support Services
If you are the first person in your family to go to college, you receive financial aid, or you would benefit from free tutoring in your class subjects, then the Student Support Services program at the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus of Southwestern Illinois College could be the help you need to succeed in your classes.
What Is Student Support Services?
The Student Support Services program at the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus is a federal TRIO grant, funded 100 percent at $230,969 annually through the U.S. Department of Education, designed to assist first-generation, low-income and disabled students with their goal of earning a college education.
The purpose of the program is to help students increase their grade point average; stay enrolled in college classes, graduate, and transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a bachelor's degree.
What Services Are Available?
Some of the services that the Student Support Services program offer include:
- computer lab with Internet access
- peer tutoring
- peer and career mentoring
- assistance with the transfer process
- assistance with career development, study skills and test-taking strategies
- laptop computer loan
- calculator loan
- textbook loan for selected classes
- college visits
- cultural and leadership experiences
- scholarship search and financial assistance
Am I eligible?
You may be eligible for assistance through Student Support Services if any of the following statements describes you or your situation:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- You are a first-generation student. (Your parents or guardians have not received a four-year bachelor's degree.)
- You receive financial aid. (If you are eligible for a Pell grant, you may fit the eligible income level.)
- You plan to transfer to a four-year college or university when you graduate from Southwestern.
- You believe that you would benefit from some extra support, such as tutoring, to succeed in college.
- You have a documented disability.
What is TRIO?
TRIO is one of a series of programs established by Congress under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to help students overcome financial, class, social, and cultural barriers to higher education.
