Tutoring
Walk-in assistance is available in the Success Center whether you have a quick question or want to meet regularly with a tutor. We have a staff of peer and professional tutors to assist you in over 20 courses. View the Fall 2008 tutoring schedule in PDF format.
All Success Center tutors, who work with students one-on-one, provide similar help. Yet the Center tutors have one of three titles:
Specialists - work 30 hours per week in the Success Center tutoring students and facilitating workshops on specific academic skills; they also work as adjunct faculty.
Learning Assistance Centers for Excellence (LACE) assistants - adjunct faculty members who assist students, in the Success Centers and in locations throughout the college, a few hours each week. View the Fall 2008 LACE Schedule in PDF format.
Peer Tutors - student tutors who are recommended by instructors, have at least a 3.0 gpa and have received at least a "B" in the class they tutor. Many of the peer tutors are CRLA certified.
Two rooms are available for small and large study groups. A lounge area at the front of the Success Center has Internet connections available for laptop computers.
Comments from students who have used the Success Center tutoring:
"I came here without any understanding of the problems I was assigned and with (the tutor's) help I left with a definite understanding and I feel more comfortable with Physics up to this point. I highly recommend this tutor room and will use it as needed."
"The Success Center has been extremely helpful for me this semester. If it were not for the tutoring I have received here I would not be passing Intermediate Algebra. If I pass my class I will attribute my success to the very able assistance I have received from tutoring."
