The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Mobile Vet Center will be at the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus, 4950 Maryville Road, Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and at the Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave., Thursday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Liberal Arts Complex.

Grant Allows Kids' Club to Provide Free Childcare for Veteran Students

The Southwestern Illinois College Kids’ Club will receive a $30,000 grant from the Newman’s Own Foundation, as well as funding from the Fisher House Foundation, to support child care for currently enrolled active military and veteran students.

SWIC Welding Technology student Dawn Poston of Worden has been working as a welder/robot programmer at Seyer Industries in St. Peters, Missouri since February 2014. She said her education helped her move into a field that can give her a chance to make a better life for her children.

SWIC Flight Training Has Gone Well for Pilot

Time hasn’t changed John Floyd’s opinion of Southwestern Illinois College – his education here helped start his career as an airline pilot.

Since earning his Associate in Applied Sciences Degree in Aviation Technology in 1981 from then-Belleville Area College, Floyd went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1983. Today, he is a national and international flight captain on a Boeing 767 for Delta Airlines.
