The Illinois Green
Economy Network is making a trek to community colleges across the state – using
only electric vehicles!
College will serve as one of the stops along the way for the statewide EV Road
Trip. Come cheer on the crew Monday, June 23 at 2:15 p.m. as they switch cars
and drivers at the “pit stop” in the Liberal Arts Complex parking lot.
Members of the community
can stop by to check out a Nissan LEAF from Auffenberg, learn more about the
SWIC charging stations and enjoy some snacks.
The road trip will
include a kickoff with Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon at John A. Logan College and a
visit to the Governor’s Mansion charging
stations in Springfield. The effort is being supported by the offices of the
Governor and Lieutenant Governor, the Illinois Office of Tourism, IGEN, Nissan,
Chargepoint and Green Wheels USA.
“Illinois has the pedal
to the metal when it comes to building a cutting edge electric vehicle
infrastructure,” said Gov. Pat Quinn. “As gas
prices soar, Illinois motorists are starting to embrace this clean energy
transportation option. The ‘EV Road Trip’ is a great showcase of this emerging
technology, our community college system and such Illinois gems as Route 66.”
