STEM Scholars tour

Southwestern Illinois College STEM Scholar Josh Westenberger of Baldwin, front, left, talks to college Network Manager Ron Durrer, right, in the college network center as he and other STEM Scholars toured the campus recently. STEM Scholars in the background are, from left, Josh Latta of East St. Louis, Jasmine Ruiz of Granite City, Olivia Hood of Sparta, Nancy Sewell of Waterloo and Jack Richards of Red Bud. The students toured sites of interest around the SWIC Belleville Campus to discover different education opportunities. STEM Scholars are a group of students who have earned tuition scholarships to study science, technology, engineering and math disciplines. They are paired with faculty mentors, participate in study groups, take part in off-campus activities, such as college visits, and enroll in special topics courses. SWIC received a more than $600,000 National Science Foundation S-STEM grant to develop the STEM Scholars Program.
