Belleville AmeriCorps at Southwestern Illinois College is looking to fill numerous paid volunteer positions. This nonprofit organization is looking for tutors (year-round) and summer camp counselors (June 1-July 28).
College students, paraprofessionals, parents, grandparents and retiring teachers over 17 are encouraged to apply. Earn a monthly stipend for living expenses as well as education awards to apply toward college tuition (past, present or future). Gain experience needed for careers in education, nonprofit management,
volunteer coordination, social work, psychology, counseling and more.
Members over 55 can earn education awards for their children or grandchildren. Year-round tutors earn a $12,530 stipend and nearly $6,000 in education awards, while summer positions earn a $2,000 stipend and more than $1,200 in education awards.
Belleville AmeriCorps member Andy Wall explains, “I serve because I enjoy helping my community. I get a thrill working every day helping students with their schoolwork and watching them make academic breakthroughs. The kids love to give high fives when they exceed
expectations in the classroom, and seeing the smiles on their faces makes my day.”
Belleville AmeriCorps spent 6,900 hours this year helping over 650 students and participating in community events and service projects in and around Belleville.
According to a new Volunteering and Civic Life in America report released by the Corporation for National and Community Service, one in four Americans volunteered through an organization and nearly two-thirds helped their neighbors last year, demonstrating that
service to others continues to be a priority for millions of Americans.
