Southwestern Illinois College students have elected Oscar Rodriguez to serve as their newest representative on the college Board of Trustees.

Rodriguez, who is pursuing an Associate in Science degree, was sworn in at the April 26 SWIC Board of Trustees meeting. As student trustee, he will be responsible for casting advisory votes on agenda items at the Board of Trustees meetings each month.

“I am ready to give back to SWIC, and do my part, to serve the students and the board to the best of my knowledge and abilities,” he said. “I look forward to making a positive difference for future generations to come.”

Rodriguez, 25, is a full-time student at the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus. He plans to transfer to a university to major in business administration with a minor in chemistry.

He previously worked as a chemistry lab support lead analyst for Dynalabs LLC in St. Louis from 2013-2016. Also, he is a first-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Rodriguez lives in Collinsville with his wife, Janet Molina, and their two-year-old son, Elias.
