Southwestern Illinois College business students proved they’re at the top of their game at the 2017 Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference in Effingham in April.

The SWIC Abe Small chapter team took the third place Award of Excellence and numerous individual awards. Students competed against approximately 110 students from across the state in 55 different events.

“We’re proud of our chapter’s accomplishments,” said Office Administration and Technology Professor and PBL Adviser Tina Dierkes, Ph.D. “Winning these awards demonstrates the value of a strong education and a strong work ethic.”

 Individual awards include:

  • First place for Business Presentation and third place for Business Communication – Jessica Hutt of Madison
  • First place for Personal Finance and second place for Business Sustainability –
    Ray McCann of Swansea
  • Second place for Business Law and third place for Project Management – Andrew Martin of Madison
  • Second place for Client Service – Hannah Braunseis of Waterloo
  • Second place for Local Chapter Annual Business Report – Marilyn Lewallen of Belleville
