New SWIC mascot gets a name

Naming Contest 3Welcome to Kashmir Country!

The new SWIC snow leopard mascot has a name!

Please welcome Kashmir to the SWIC family.

The mascot contest received hundreds of name submissions, with name ideas coming from students, employees and the community. One name submission even came as far as New York, from Panthera, a conservation group whose mission is to ensure the future of wild cats through scientific leadership and global conservation action.

After all was said and done, Kashmir was the top choice. The name comes from a region of Asia where the endangered snow leopards tend to live.

“We couldn’t be happier with the response we received from the college and the community to name our new mascot,” said Athletics Director Jay Harrington. “We are looking forward to using this new name and image in not only athletic events, but also sharing it with the entire college.”
