Head Coach Kathy Bernal

Kathy Bernal has been head coach of the Southwestern Illinois College women's softball team since 1995. She has compiled an overall record of 461-518. Her SWIC teams have made it to the Regional Final Four five times, finishing as runners-up twice. Coach Bernal has coached several All-Region and All-Conference players and two National Junior College Athletic Association All-Americans. Coach Bernal has had numerous players transfer to Division I, Division II and NAIA schools.

Before coming to SWIC, Coach Bernal compiled a 42-18 record in three seasons as the varsity head coach at her alma mater, Mascoutah High School. From 1980-84, Coach Bernal played for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, earning All-American honors as a catcher in 1984. The 1982 team was inducted into the SIUE Hall of Fame in 2006.

In addition to her coaching duties, Coach Bernal is an associate athletic director at SWIC. She and her husband, Jeff, have three daughters, Mary Kate, Meagan and Melissa.
