Women's Volleyball Coaches

Head Coach Warren Thomas

Coach Thomas is entering his fifth season as head women's volleyball coach at SWIC with an overall record of 52-78 in NJCAA Region 24 (2012-2015). While in one of the toughest NJCAA Region's in the country, Coach Thomas has dedicated himself to grow the volleyball program to championship heights. Prior to coming to SWIC, Coach Thomas was the varsity head coach for girl's volleyball at Alamogordo High School, Alamogordo, New Mexico, where he coached for seven years, placing fourth in Class 5A State (2008); first school's appearance at this level in 19 years.

Coach Thomas is a graduate from New Mexico State University with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He is also retired Air Force, where he was enlisted for 28 years. Volleyball has been a major part of his life, playing and/or coaching for over 35 years. Noteworthy, he played internationally for the European Armed Forces Team before coaching the Holloman Air Force Base men's and women's club teams while stationed in New Mexico. Additionally, he currently coaches Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Youth Volleyball under the Gateway Volleyball organization out of St. Louis, MO. 

Coach Thomas is looking forward to the upcoming volleyball season and is excited about the players he has returning and the new players who have signed to play at SWIC.

Assistant Coach Chelsi Hummert

Coach Hummert is entering her first season as the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach at SWIC. Coach Hummert is a 2011 graduate of Freeburg High School. She was a 4-year varsity starter and member of the Class 2A State Championship team in 2008 and 2009. She was named the Belleville News Democrat's Small School Player of the Year in 2009. She earned All-Conference honors in 2008, 2009, and 2010. In addition, she earned All-State honors in 2009 and 2010.

Coach Hummert played 7 seasons of club volleyball for Southwest Illinois Volleyball Club. Her club volleyball career included several National Championship appearances with 5th place finishes in 2008 and 2009. She earned an All-American accolade in 2010.

Coach Hummert played volleyball at SIUE in 2011 where she appeared in 25 matches as a freshman. In 2012, she played at SWIC for Coach Warren Thomas. While at SWIC, she was named to the All-Region 24 team. She finished out her volleyball career with 2 seasons at Lindenwood University-Belleville Campus. At Lindenwood, she was named All-Conference and All-American in 2013 and 2014. She was also a member of the Capital One Academic All-American Team in 2014 for her efforts in the classroom and on the court.

Coach Hummert also coaches for SWI Crush Volleyball Club and Freeburg Grade School. She is very excited to be a part of the SWIC volleyball program..
