It doesn't take a plane ticket to hear music from around the world.
The Southwestern Illinois College Music Department will present classical flute and piano music from across the globe performed by three of the region's most talented artists: Shelly Monier, D.M.A., and SWIC's own Kristi Benedick, D.M.A., and Diana Umali. The event is Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in the Schmidt Art Center, 2500 Carlyle Ave. Admittance is free and open to the public.
"Take a trip through the musical arts as performed across the globe," Umali said. "This is a great chance to expand your horizons."
Monier is a member of the faculty at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where she teaches Applied Flute, Introduction to Music History and conducts the SIUE Flute Choir. Additionally, she is an adjunct professor at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley.
Benedick is an adjunct Music faculty member at SWIC. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, a Master of Arts in Music Performance from Illinois State University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Southeast Missouri State University. Also, she is an adjunct instructor of music at St. Charles Community College.
Umali is an assistant professor of Music at SWIC. She completed her Master of Arts degree in Piano Performance with an emphasis in accompanying/chamber music from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
