How to Register 

Mad Science summer camps offer a unique combination of fun, hands-on activities with extended science investigation. Each day follows a different theme and the children play games, perform experiments and assist with demonstrations all related to that theme. In typical Mad Science fashion, they also make something to take home with them to encourage continued exploration of scientific concepts and discovery. Instructors provided by Mad Science.

Children will be provided with a morning and afternoon break and must bring a sack lunch.
Classes are held Monday through Friday at Southwestern Illinois College, 2500 Carlyle Avenue, Belleville, IL 62221.

Wings and Things
Ages 5-12

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s everything that flies! (superheroes excluded)…From the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights, this hands-on program focuses on aerodynamics and the world above us! Campers build many different flying devices and put them to the test! Traveling further up, campers investigate the wonders of our very own Milky Way. They join their fellow “astronauts” as we send an awesome Mad Science rocket to the moon…well at least into the sky.

Science Palooza
Ages 5-12

Mad Science invites you to discover a week of all things science!  Campers will dissect owl pellets and build a super strong bridge. Can your bridge withstand the shake, rattle and roll challenge? Want a cool way to recycle a newspaper? How about turning it into a geodesic dome that you and your friends can sit in? Campers will explore the world of birds and beasts with birdhouse building and our super bug investigation. Campers will roll up their sleeves in the Mad Science chemistry lab and mix, mash and brew concoctions to create cool sidewalk chalk and bath fizzers! Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, simple machines and megapinchers! Campers will discover the wonders of photography and make their own chromatography-dyed T-shirt. It’s a week packed with non-stop science fun!

How to Register  

Abra-Kid-Abra summer camps combine fun, hands-on activities while developing presentation skills! The days are broken into short modules to keep the activities varied and campers excited. The modules involve lots of hand-on activities (e.g., participating in comedy warm-ups, building your own magic tricks, twisting animal balloons, etc.). Instructors provided by Abra-Kid-Abra.

Children must bring a morning and afternoon beverage and snack and a sack lunch for full-day classes.

Bricks 4 Kidz camps are a fresh and fun way for kids ages 5-13+ to spend their school break! Form a team to face the challenge of our extreme expedition camp. Search the globe for bricks and other resources needed to construct a base in the Himalayas, Australia, Europe and elsewhere. Encounter worst-case scenario survival challenges, face forces of nature and construct transportation equipment out of LEGO® bricks to bring your team together from around the globe. Bat League: Heroes and Villains
Ages 5-9

Enter the dark city where a dangerous jokester and other evil villains wreak havoc. Thankfully there is a bat hero who comes out each night to fight against these evil-doers! The good guys will ride into action as campers build motorized models of the bat hero’s speedy vehicle and bat girl’s sleek cycle. But keep the bat light searching for the evil jokester’s motorized low rider vehicle cruising through the city streets as well. Send the bat hero swinging on his grappling hook technic model from one skyscraper to the next as he fights crime with his trusty super sidekick. Inspired by the recently released film, campers will use their imaginations, building skills and crime-fighting passion in this thrilling camp of bat heroes and villains!

Jurassic Brick Land
Ages 5-10

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Put on your hiking boots and camouflage...you’re about to enter Jurassic Brick Land! Campers will build a world that comes to life with gentle brontosaurus, ferocious velociraptor, terrifying T. rex, and more. We’ll learn about amazing dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic period and other extinct, prehistoric animals that roamed the earth and swam the seas during that era and millions of years later. Show us your building skills using our specialized project kits! Come learn, build and play at Jurassic Brick Land camp!

Sciensational Workshops for Kids, Inc. is dedicated to providing the highest quality programs to make science interesting, fun and educational for elementary-school age children in a hands-on approach.

Students who sign up for a morning and afternoon class will be provided supervision from 12-12:30. Bring a sack lunch. Classes are held Monday through Friday at SWIC.

Follow Me Robot
Ages 7-12

How would you like to build a robot that has four built-in microphones? It will detect the sound source and in turn it will move and turn accordingly. It is your own robot to build and take home. Wow! It starts flashing and plays Do Re Mi. Make it move the way you want it to move. It is so smart. It will move in its own routine if it does not get a signal in 1 minute. It will go to sleep if you do not issue any commands in 90 seconds. However, you can wake it up. Learn about the different gears and sensors as you build it. Get to build other robots working in groups. Join in our sumo wrestling and obstacle course events with what you have built. See everything happening as you build. That's the Sciensational way!

Electronic Lab
Ages 7-12

Learn about electronics the best way possible. You will experiment and take home your own electronic lab kit. You will get to build a super race car engine sound, electric fan, motion detector, power microphone, trombone sounds, space war sounds and so many more neat projects. That's not all. It is not just about building. You will learn what direct current is and which materials conduct electricity. Learn what happens when you place batteries in series. Learn what resistors and capacitors do and so much more. Better yet, make your own battery. Make a mind reading game, a musical doorbell and a lie detector, control electronic currents by the clap of your hands, and still more than that. Yes, it is Sciensational Workshops' way of science. Fun, hands-on and educational. Kids will be grouped by age.

Arcade Electronics Galore
Ages 7-12

Get ready to build and play your own arcade games and more. You will have at your disposal resistors, switches, wires, LED diodes, transistors and more. Do not get overwhelmed. Building with electronics is fun. You will program the spinning light fan to display different sayings. Build and play a home run derby game. See who gets the most home runs before getting 10 outs. A winning song will cheer. Build circuits to test your memory. Build an electronic circuit that plays the card game 21. You can learn to program the circuit board to emit different funky sounds. Play with the disco ball, sirens or a light show. Learn the effects of the different electronic components. Learn what amps, volts, resistance and power are. Yes, this is Sciensational Workshops learn by doing. That is STEM.

CSI – Crime Scene Investigation 
Ages 8-12

You will be the super science sleuths. Have fun learning about forensics, crime scene investigations and crime lab chemistry as you perform as many as 15 different experiments designed to show you just how those tricky cases are solved. Search for the evidence, gather clues and discover how science can help solve a mystery. Participants will: Dust for fingerprints, analyze handwriting, test for blood type using simulated blood, examine hair and clothing fibers, practice chemistry to identify mystery substances and much more. Participants will then use their skills to solve crimes of the century.

3D Illumination Electronics
Ages 7-12

Experiment, have fun and take home your own 3D illumination electronic kit. The first of its kind and fantastic! There will be exciting light effects. See a three-color light tunnel. Activities include building your own security house. No one will enter as the alarm sounds and color LED flashes. Play button ball or hole ball. Build a projector that will show six cool images. Use your 3D color glasses. Build a house with lights. Join Sciensational Workshops' way of learning, where it is hands on and fun. That is STEM.

Creative Engineering
Ages 7-12

Activities include: Work with an advanced three-dimensional construction kit that is yours to keep and take home. Design and build simple or complex models of a vehicle, a robot or buildings. You will also get your own 3-volt geared motor to power up a moveable radar surveyor. Learn the many ways you can make your motor run. Hands on is the only way, so prepare to build from directions and from your own imagination!

Love the classes, but need full week or full day care? SWIC has partnered with the YMCA and created four options to meet those needs. 

Option A - Campers will start at the YMCA for pre-care (as early as 6:30 a.m.). Campers will be escorted to SWIC classes for their start at 8 a.m. After classes end at 11:30 a.m., campers will be picked up at SWIC by their parents or guardians.

Days: Monday-Thursday    Times Available: 6:30-8 a.m.  Friday Care also available at no extra fee (6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

Cost: $60


Option B - Campers will start at the YMCA for pre-care (as early as 6:30 a.m.). Campers will be escorted to SWIC classes for their start at 8 a.m. After classes end at 11:30 a.m., campers will be escorted back to YMCA for Day Camp for an afternoon of swimming, games and fun activities.

Days: Monday-Thursday    Times Available: 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Friday Care also available at no extra fee (6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

Cost: $60


Option C - Campers will start day at SWIC classes. After classes end at 11:30 a.m., campers will be escorted back to YMCA for Day Camp for an afternoon of swimming, games and fun activities.
