Participants in the Southwestern Illinois Tech Prep Consortium include administrators, educators, counselors, and students from the 21 schools and two area vocational centers in our consortium, the deans and program coordinators representing career and technical education programs at Southwestern Illinois College, and business partners. Mission Statement for the
Southwestern Illinois Tech Prep Consortium
Provide the best learning opportunity for students to acquire Career and Technical education with embedded academics to be successfully employed in high demand and wage careers.
Goals of the Consortium
- Develop and maintain articulation agreements between consortium high schools and the community college
- Provide a seamless transition for Tech Prep students from secondary to post-secondary education
- Provide leadership in the implementation of local Tech Prep initiatives
- Involve business, labor, and community organizations in curriculum development as well as school-based and work-based experiences
- Develop new Tech Prep pathways as appropriate
- Provide in-service training for secondary and post-secondary instructors and counselors
- Provide equal access to the full range of Tech Prep educational programs to individuals who are members of special populations
- Provide information and in-services to stress integration of academic and technical education at all levels
- Provide and expand work-based learning opportunities in high-wage, high-skill occupations
- Provide preparatory services such as tutoring, mentoring, guest speakers, field trips, in-service, and other appropriate career development and guidance activities
- Make information available to all stakeholders including students, educators, business partners, and parents to help all partners make informed decisions
