High school students exhibit art at the Schmidt Art Center

More than 95 Illinois high school students can now say they are exhibiting artists thanks to the 2019 Southwestern Illinois College High School Art Show, curated by the Schmidt Art Center at the college’s Belleville Campus. Art from the 2019 Congressional Art Competition and SWIC High School Art Show were a part of the exhibition.

Local high school winning artists for the Congressional Art Competition include:

FREEBURG COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL
– Katherine Marler: Congressional Art Competition Honorable Mention Award for a mixed media piece, titled “Journey to the Center of Illinois”

– Eva Weber: Grand Prize Award in the Congressional High School Art Competition for the Illinois 12th District for a colored pencil piece, titled “Mariposa”

MARION HIGH SCHOOL
– Arah Cramer: Second Place Congressional Art Competition Award for a photograph, titled “Trail to Nature”

– Chloe Dover: Third Place Congressional Art Competition Award for a photograph, titled “Sunflowers and Black Beauty”

– Isabella Hayes: Congressional Art Competition Honorable Mention Award for a photograph, titled “Spillway”

PINCKNEYVILLE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL

– Jade Riley: Congressional Art Competition Honorable Mention Award for a watercolor painting, titled “More Bees Please”

– Seldyn Starkweather: Congressional Art Competition Honorable Mention Award for a chalk pastel drawing, titled “Acernus Folium”

BELLEVILLE TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL WEST:

– Emma Renfroe: Otten Art Award for a colored pencil piece, titled “Portrait of the Artist”
– Sofia Sierra: Midwest Salute to the Arts Festival Award for an oil painting, titled, “What Am I Becoming?”

– Emily Wiemer: Jane Katz Memorial SWIC Scholarship Award for a charcoal and mixed media piece, titled “Metastatis”

– Alicia Willis: Kiwanis Club of Belleville Award for a mixed media piece, titled, “Land of Lincoln”

EAST ST. LOUIS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL:

– Taychelle Glen: Gesso Magazine Award for a digital piece, titled “Eye of the Beholder”

GIBAULT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL:

– Lillie Roever: Mary Patricia Stumpf Tribute Award for an acrylic painting, titled “The Color of Music”
– Mira Todd: Midwest Salute to the Arts Festival Award for a ceramic piece, titled, “Go with the Flow”

HIGHLAND HIGH SCHOOL:

– Geena Budwell: Ron Isom Contemporary Art Award for a found object piece, titled “Coyota”

TRIAD HIGH SCHOOL:

– Zeda Bartlett-Duhr: Gateway East Artist Guild Award for an oil and acrylic painting, titled “Perspective”
