POSITION DESCRIPTION
In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, this full-time position is responsible for writing and disseminating public information and promotional materials (print, broadcast, electronic/Web) to promote SWIC instruction, community services, and institutional initiatives. This position focuses primarily on communications, as such, and is responsible for helping to lead the College’s internal and external communications efforts through strategic and digital content creation, public relations, and crisis communications. The incumbent will develop and execute communication plans to enhance the College’s visibility, reputation, and engagement with key audiences, including students, faculty, staff, and the community. This role requires a high level of independent judgment and discretion in messaging, media relations, and outreach strategies, as well as strong collaboration skills. Additionally, the Associate Director will work closely with the Chief of Staff and the Office of the President to support strategic and presidential communications, including speechwriting, advocacy writing, presentation creation, and executive messaging. The incumbent must become familiar with virtually all operations of the college and establish working relationships with advertising/editorial media contacts throughout Community College District 522. The incumbent must responsibly manage the workflow for assigned clients/beats, and supervise staff assigned to assist.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field is required; a Master’s preferred.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in communications, public relations, or journalism is required. Experience in a college or university public information or marketing office is desirable.
- Experience with Apple software is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and web content management systems is required.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check before hire.
SALARY:
Salary Grade 4 on the Administrative Pay Scale, ranging from $63,750 to $79,700.

WORK LOCATION:
On-site at Belleville Campus, with district-wide responsibilities. Responsible for the dissemination of information on the district-wide activities of Southwestern Illinois College.
