The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire an Internal Security Investigator I for the Chicago Read Mental Health Center located in Chicago, Illinois to conduct responsible and confidential investigative work into routine violations of health care statutes. Gathers data and evidence, interviews staff, receives reports and analyzes relevant evidence concerning cases under investigation. Completes investigations by conducting interviews, preparing reports, summarizing investigative activities, and recommending conclusions. Maintains reasonable availability at the Center to begin investigations and secure the crime scene. Serves as liaison with the Department’s Office of Inspector General (OIG), Illinois State Police (ISP) and other law enforcement agencies regarding ongoing investigations. Trains Center staff in investigative techniques and other related topics.
Essential Functions
–Conducts responsible and confidential investigative work into routine violations of health care statutes.
–Prepares written case reports and investigative summaries for all facility OIG cases under investigation.
–Trains Center staff in investigative techniques and other related topics.
–Serves as an expert witness and gives testimony in criminal and administrative hearings related to the conducting of or results of the investigation.
–Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus three (3) years’ experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field OR requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with major coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus one (1) year professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field OR requires completion of the F.B.I. National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling.
Preferred Qualifications
–Five (5) years of professional experience conducting responsible and confidential investigative work for a public or private organization.
–Five (5) years of professional experience obtaining oral and written statements for a public or private organization.
–Five (5) years of professional experience gathering and preparing investigative reports.
–Five (5) years of professional experience maintaining confidential files pertaining to completed or cases under investigation.
–Three (3) years of professional experience meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail and the ability to use critical thinking skills while multi-tasking multiple projects.
Conditions of Employment
Requires the ability to serve on an on-call basis in emergency situations.
Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
