Job Description

SWIC Student Orientation (SSO) is a key part of every new student’s introduction to SWIC. Incoming freshman and transfer students will attend SSO sessions on campus with their parents/guardians/supporters for a 2.5-hour session where they will learn about academic expectations, tour campus, and attend a technology session.

SSO student leaders will serve in multiple capacities throughout the orientation session. SSO student leaders will assist new students in navigating through their orientation day by introducing them to campus, resources, activities, and opportunities available to students at SWIC. Student Leaders will also assist with SSO set up, check-in, program facilitation, and ensuring the program runs smoothly.

Work Schedule:

2-3 days a week, 4-5 hours per day. Workdays will change weekly. There are 14 New Student Orientation Days throughout the summer, at Belleville, Red Bud, East St. Louis, and Sam Wolf Granite City campuses.

Responsibilities:

SWIC Student Orientation student leader roles will include the following:

  • Serve and support students and families throughout their orientation session
  • Lead a daily small group campus tour
  • Help guide and answer questions
  • Lead conversations to develop community amongst new students
  • Serve as a resource to new students and their families by creating an inclusive environment and assisting with any questions they may have about SWIC
  • Assist with execution and logistics of the day-to-day operations of NSO which includes set-up, check-in, making reminder calls, greeting and providing directions, and tear down
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
