Southwestern Illinois College has earned the 2017 Military Friendly School designation by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs, STEM Jobs, and Military Spouse. This is the fourth year the college has been recognized as a Military Friendly School.
More than 1,700 higher education institutions participated in the 2017 survey; 1,273 were awarded the designation in recognition of their support of the military community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans. Military Friendly® schools represent the top tier of institutions who provide the best opportunities for military service members and spouses. Having the designation shows that your school is better for veterans with the admissions, student support and career services in place to prepare them for graduation and gainful employment.
“We proudly serve the largest student veteran population of any public institution in Illinois,” said President Georgia Costello, Ph.D. “Supporting veterans and military families is one of our top priorities. Not only do we assist veterans and their dependents with obtaining federal and state education benefits, we offer additional support for long-term success. We are honored to be recognized once again as a Military Friendly School for the support and programming we offer to our student veterans. Veterans are our heroes.”
