Southwestern Illinois College students have elected Dajanae Thomas-Jackson to serve as their newest representative on the college Board of Trustees.
Thomas-Jackson, 20, of East St. Louis, is a full-time student at the Belleville Campus pursuing an Associate in Arts Degree with an emphasis in Speech Communications.
She was sworn in at the April 17 SWIC Board of Trustees meeting. As student trustee, she will be responsible for casting advisory votes on agenda items at the Board of Trustees meetings each month.
“Taking on leadership responsibilities for as long as I have been able to talk, I decided to run and serve on the Board of Trustees to extend my leadership capabilities to my peers,” she said.
Thomas-Jackson is a College Activities student worker and is a lead sales associate at Justice in Fairview Heights.
She is the daughter of Nikeba Thomas and Merrick Jackson II.
