Good news for St. Louis residents who want to take classes at Southwestern Illinois College: They can pay the same tuition rate as SWIC district residents starting in the Fall 2019 Semester.
Residents of Missouri and other states can attend SWIC for only $113 per semester credit…the same rate that residents of Community College District 522 pay. The out-of-state rate previously was $520 per semester credit. The Board of Trustees approved this measure at its March meeting.
“We have a lot of academic programs that community colleges in other states don’t have so now we can open the door to out-of-state students,” said SWIC President Nick J. Mance. “Out-of-state tuition was previously cost prohibitive. We want to remove that barrier.”
Some of SWIC’s unique programs include Aviation Pilot Training, Aviation Management, Commercial Maintenance Mechanics, Industrial Maintenance Mechanics, Massage Therapy and Welding Technology.
The out-of-district tuition rate for fall has also been reduced to only $204 per semester credit from the previous rate of $399 per semester credit.
All students will still pay the same $6 per semester credit Technology Fee and the $3 per semester credit Activity Fee in addition to standard course fees.
