The Schmidt summer art exhibition explores our bodies, the human experience and reminiscent landscapes

Whether looking at oil paintings that examine our complex relationship with our bodies, photographs that explore the human experience or acrylic landscape paintings on found papers, the artists exhibiting work at the William and Florence Schmidt Art Center June 13 through July 18, each have a unique vision to showcase. A public reception featuring artist talks will take place from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, June 13 at The Schmidt, on the Southwestern Illinois College Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave. “With this exhibition we have the opportunity to see ourselves and the world from a variety of perspectives including figurative oil paintings; photographs depicting visual manifestations of the human experience and beyond; and concealing landscapes with acrylics on paper,” said Schmidt Curator Nicole Dutton. “It’s one of our most surreal shows yet.” For more information about these exhibitions, The Schmidt, the art center’s calendar of events and arts education programs, visit or call 618-222-5ART (5278).
