Learn the Recording Industry!

If you want to learn the skills you need to succeed in the recording studio, come and study at SWIC! We offer a state-of-the-art recording studio, with a Neve Genesys console, ProTools HD 12, a large selection of high-end microphones, and plenty of boutique preamps and sound processing. We also have a twenty station computer lab with the latest industry-leading software, such as Ableton Live, Reason, and Native Instruments Komplete.

SWIC offers both an AAS degree in Music Technology and a Certificate in Recording Technology. To schedule an appointment to meet with us, contact music technology program coordinator Dan Mehrmann, or department chair Ed Jacobs, and we will work with you one-on-one to help you make the right choices to be successful.

Associate of Applied Science in Music Technology

This two-year program focuses on the skills necessary to pursue careers in commercial music fields.

Certificate in Recording Technology

This eight-course program is designed for students interested in learning musical and recording engineering skills. This certificate includes eight core courses in digital recording and music theory.

Music and Recording Transfer electives

Students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university may enroll in music technology program courses as electives, particularly if they are pursuing a degree in the music business or audio engineering.

Study in state-of-the-art studio and lab

Both programs are supported with a recording studio and music computer lab at the Belleville Campus.

Hands-on study start to finish

Students in both programs will have the opportunity to track, edit, and mix full production projects.

Computer music survey courses

These courses focus on MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), and software programs, such as Native Instruments Komplete, Ableton Live, Reason, and Finale. Students will learn sound design, sampling, beat making, and composition.

Internship (practicum) information and application
