Veterans Benefits
Veterans Benefits are available to qualified veterans attending Southwestern Illinois College. Benefits vary by program, enrollment hours and the number of dependents. For more information, contact the Financial Aid, Veteran Services, & Student Employment Office at your campus.
Department of Human Services (DOHS)
Financial assistance is available to students with disabilities who could benefit from training. Students should contact their local Vocational Rehabilitation Office or the Disability & Access Center at Southwestern Illinois College, Belleville Campus.
Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
Financial assistance is available for students in specific vocational programs that have a job layoff or meet income guidelines. Contact your local WIOA Agency for additional information.
ROTC Transfer Scholarships
Students transferring to an eligible state university who have been accepted into the ROTC program may apply. Southwestern Illinois College is allowed to award three ROTC scholarships per year, and the criteria will vary each year depending on the number of applicants. To apply, a nomination letter must be sent by your ROTC sponsor at the state university to the Director of Financial Aid and Student Services at Southwestern Illinois College.
Senior Citizens Tuition Waiver Program
Senior citizens aged 65 or older with an annual household income of less than (as required by the Senior Citizens & Disabled Persons Property Tax Relief and Pharmaceutical Assistance Act):

Additional eligibility requirements include:
- Be a resident of Comunity College District 522
- Complete the admissions requirements for the class that the tuition waiver is requested
- Enroll in a credit class in which classroom space exists (closed class cards are not issued)
- Be enrolled in a class that already has enough tuition-paying students to fulfill the minimum number of students required to hold the class
- Pay the laboratory fees charged for courses requiring laboratory work; there is no waiver for senior citizens
- There is no senior citizen tuition waiver for non-credit classes such as Community Service (CSA) classes and Saturday Experience classes
- The senior citizen tuition waiver is not applicable to any other college fees, textbook costs, or supply costs
This tuition waiver will be superseded by any other financial aid assistance (e.g. grants, scholarships, veteran benefits) received by the student. The Tuition waiver may only be used after all other aid resources have been applied and a remaining tuition balance exists.
