Web Browser Sessions

When you are done with a browser session, sign out and quit or exit out of the browser. Start another browser session when switching to a completely different system or when you need another session.

How It Works

Behind the scenes, certain information is built and retained on the computer to help the computer and the Web server communicate more quickly. This information could interfere with subsequent browser sessions if not cleaned up. Shutting down the browser between sessions clears this information.

Cache & Cookies

Periodically clear a browser’s cache & cookies. Although the manner and name of the tool to clear this information can differ depending on operating system, browser type and browser version, you can typically find it under the browser’s tools menu.

How It Works

Cache helps decrease the time it takes your computer browser to connect to previously visited Web sites by storing information from those sites to prevent the need to download it again. However, cache can become corrupt or outdated and may hinder the connection instead of assisting it. Clearing cache can eliminate this problem, while eliminating unnecessary information from Web sites that were visited only once and no longer needed.

Blocked Content

At times, Internet Explorer has issues identifying SSL certificates issued by Verisign. These certificates are installed on our eSTORM Web server to encrypt and protect your data. The error message does not mean that the eSTORM certificate is invalid, but rather that there is a problem with Internet Explorer’s ability to read the Verisign certificate. If you are on estorm.swic.edu, you can safely accept the certificate by clicking in the shaded area at the top of the page and left-clicking one time and then clicking on “Display Blocked Content.”
