Fund Descriptions - Southwestern Illinois College

Your gift is a gift to the arts. Through a donation of your choice, The Schmidt can continue to offer the varied arts and cultural programs to college students and our community.

Collaborative Arts Fund

The purpose of this fund is to support and enhance the Art Center through activities considered cultural in scope, with the primary emphasis on providing guest appearances by recognized performing or visual artists, or securing works of art for the permanent collection. The fund is to benefit students and residents of the college district and not for on-going operational expenses of the college.   

Permanent Collection Fund

This fund is to be used for the purchase and display of artwork for the College and Foundation permanent collection.

Schmidt Art Center Auxiliary Fund

This fund is for auxiliary purposes.

Schmidt Art Center Exhibition Fund

These funds are to be used for exhibition programming and not operational expenses. Outgoing loans, shipping and transportation costs of artwork, travelling exhibition fees, and specialty exhibition support material may be paid for through this fund.

Schmidt Art Center Gardens Maintenance and Improvement Fund

The purpose of this fund is to support and enhance the Schmidt Family Gardens surrounding the Art Center and to maintain the Reach water sculpture by Archie Held. It is not to be used for the ongoing care and maintenance of the gardens. The College made the commitment to support the garden’s care in its petition to become a Missouri Botanical Garden “Signature Garden.”

Schmidt Art Center Maintenance and Improvement Fund

The purpose of this fund is to support enhancements to the Art Center beyond the regular care and maintenance that is the College’s responsibility.

Schmidt Art Center Programming

The purpose of this fund is to support programs designed to expand visitors’ enjoyment and understanding of the Schmidt’s exhibits or to enhance the public’s experience of art in many forms.

Schmidt-Barton Art Center & Gardens Fund

The purpose of this fund is to support and enhance the Schmidt Art Center and surrounding gardens.

Schmidt Art Center Gallery Fund

The purpose of this fund is to support and enhance arts and cultural programs and exhibitions of the Art Center. It is not to be used for the ongoing care and maintenance or normal operating expenses assumed by the College.

Student Art Show Fund

This fund provides cash awards to high school and SWIC students during their art exhibitions hosted by the Schmidt Art Center.

Vendi Machine Art Scholarship

This fund provides an art student with a $150 award at the SWIC Student Art Show.
