Melissa McDonough – Presence With Light: Dimensional Paintings

March 16- April 8

In her site-specific practice, local artist Melissa McDonough reconciles the relationship between painting and sculpture through the interplay of material and light. A once illusory space becomes an ever-changing physical presence of orchestrated shape and line. Translucent veils hide and reveal shifting layers, while projected light creates new, yet fleeting elements speaking to the subtleties and brevity of experience.

Maryam Safajoo – Two Centuries of Pleas

March 16- April 8

Persian/Iranian American artist and 2025 Guggenheim Fellow Maryam Safajoo explores resilience, memory, and justice through painting. Her work recounts the Baha’i community after the 1979 revolution, preserving histories that have been silenced, erased, or entrusted solely to the memories of those who endured them.

Robin Assner-Alvey – The Body Residual

January 26 – February 18

Robin Assner-Alvey’s work explores the body and womanhood through personal experience. Created using an experimental image-transfer process, her current series of disjointed self-portraits examines maternal ambivalence and the physical and emotional toll of motherhood, capturing the exhaustion and unpredictability of caregiving and self-navigation.

Kristoffer Johnson – To Which We Return

January 26 – February 18

Kristoffer Johnson’s work confronts impermanence and the fragility of the human body, drawing on the Buddhist concept of Maranasati, “mindfulness of death,” and the Western tradition of Memento Mori. Using the alternative photographic process of mordançage to erode and distort his images, he mimics bodily decay, underscoring the inevitability of mortality.
