2025 Exhibitions - Southwestern Illinois College

January 21 – February 11

Local multimedia artist Joseph Jesse Ovalle constructs creatures, objects, and symbols influenced by the political landscape. Cyclical patterns and oppressive architectures come to the forefront of his work and serve as a visual critique of elected government officials who operate within institutional systems. In this exhibition, he creates a symbolic representation of their influence. He considers his process devotional as it incorporates repetition and labor. Harkening to historical and contemporary art, he calls on his audience to join in a journey of discovery.
