SWIC Telephones
Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) uses two types of telephones on campus, IP Phone and Digital Phone. Each phone line comes equipped with standard features:
- Call Forward
- Call Pick-Up
- Call Park
- Call Transfer
- Hold
- Six-Way Conference
- Voicemail
- Volume Control
- Speakerphone

Dial 9 + area code + seven-digit number
*As of October, 2021, you MUST dial the area code, even for local (618) calls. The change is necessary to accommodate the national 988 Suicide Prevention Line, which started in July, 2022.
Operator Services
- Operators are available:
- Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Faculty/staff desk phones do not need to dial the operator for long distance calling; however, long distance calling is monitored.
- If you have information to share with the operators, please send it to TechAssistance@swic.edu.
- To reach a SWIC Operator:
- On campus: dial 0
- Off campus: dial 618-235-2700
Transferring a Call
Direct
- While on a call, select the line you want to transfer from the phone screen.
- Press Transfer or OK.
- Dial the telephone number, or you may choose from your contacts list.
- Hang up or press Complete or OK.
Announced
- While on a call, select the line you want to transfer from the phone screen.
- Press Transfer or OK.
- Dial the telephone number, or you may choose from your contacts list.
- Wait for your party to answer and announce the call to them.
- Hang up or press Complete or OK.
Direct to Voicemail
- While on a call, select the line you want to transfer from the phone screen.
- Press Transfer.
- Dial 1111.
- After the prompt, dial the recipient’s extension number.
- Hang up or press Complete or OK.
Conference Calls
Setting up a conference call
- While on a call, select your active call from the phone screen.
- Press Conf.
- Dial the telephone number, or you may choose from your contacts list.
- Wait for the person to answer.
- Press Join or OK to add the person to the existing call.
- Press Add.
- Repeat steps 2 – 5 to add another person to the conference call.
- To drop the last person added to the conference call, press Drop at any time.
Adding a person on hold to a conference call
- While on a call, select your active call from the phone screen.
- Press Conf, or Add if you are already in a conference.
- Select the call on hold that you want to add to the conference.
- Press Resume to take the call off hold.
- Press Join to add the person to the conference call.
Dropping a person from a conference call
- While on a call, select your active call from the phone screen.
- Press More.
- Press Details.
- Select the person you want to drop.
- Press Drop.
Pick-up and Park Calls
The console operator and users with system phones have the ability to “Park” a call and ask that someone “Pickup” the call at another phone. If you are ever asked to pick up a call these are the procedures you would follow:
Parking a call with a system phone
- While on a live call, press Transfer.
- Press the button next to Call Park.
- Press Transfer again.
- This will park the caller on your extension number.
- The call can be picked up at any other station by pressing the Pickup Park button followed by your extension number.
Pick-up a parked call from a system phone
- Lift the receiver.
- Press the Pickup Park button.
- Dial the extension number you were told to pickup.
Pick-up a parked call from an analog phone
- Lift the receiver.
- Dial #99.
- Dial the extension number you were told to pickup.
Group call pick-up – if you are part of a pick-up group
- Press the right arrow button to scroll to the next screen.
- Push the button next to Group Pickup.
- This will answer calls on any phone within your group.
Directed call pick-up – for phones not in the pick-up group
- Lift your receiver.
- Dial *32.
- Dial the 4 digit extension number of the phone that is ringing.
Emergency Call Button
