    SWIC Telephones

    Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) uses two types of telephones on campus, IP Phone and Digital Phone.  Each phone line comes equipped with standard features:

    • Call Forward

    Dialing Off-Campus

    Dial 9 + area code + seven-digit number

    *As of October, 2021, you MUST dial the area code, even for local (618) calls. The change is necessary to accommodate the national 988 Suicide Prevention Line, which started in July, 2022.

    Operator Services

    1. Operators are available:
      1. Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
      2. Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    2. Faculty/staff desk phones do not need to dial the operator for long distance calling; however, long distance calling is monitored.
    3. If you have information to share with the operators, please send it to TechAssistance@swic.edu.
    4. To reach a SWIC Operator:
      1. On campus: dial 0
      2. Off campus: dial 618-235-2700

    Transferring a Call

    Direct

    1. While on a call, select the line you want to transfer from the phone screen.
    2. Press Transfer or OK.
    3. Dial the telephone number, or you may choose from your contacts list.
    4. Hang up or press Complete or OK.

    Announced

    1. While on a call, select the line you want to transfer from the phone screen.
    2. Press Transfer or OK.
    3. Dial the telephone number, or you may choose from your contacts list.
    4. Wait for your party to answer and announce the call to them.
    5. Hang up or press Complete or OK.

    Direct to Voicemail

    1. While on a call, select the line you want to transfer from the phone screen.
    2. Press Transfer.
    3. Dial 1111.
    4. After the prompt, dial the recipient’s extension number.
    5. Hang up or press Complete or OK.

    Conference Calls

    Setting up a conference call

    1. While on a call, select your active call from the phone screen.
    2. Press Conf.
    3. Dial the telephone number, or you may choose from your contacts list.
    4. Wait for the person to answer.
    5. Press Join or OK to add the person to the existing call.
    6. Press Add.
    7. Repeat steps 2 – 5 to add another person to the conference call.
    8. To drop the last person added to the conference call, press Drop at any time.

    Adding a person on hold to a conference call

    1. While on a call, select your active call from the phone screen.
    2. Press Conf, or Add if you are already in a conference.
    3. Select the call on hold that you want to add to the conference.
    4. Press Resume to take the call off hold.
    5. Press Join to add the person to the conference call.

    Dropping a person from a conference call

    1. While on a call, select your active call from the phone screen.
    2. Press More.
    3. Press Details.
    4. Select the person you want to drop.
    5. Press Drop.

    Pick-up and Park Calls

    The console operator and users with system phones have the ability to “Park” a call and ask that someone “Pickup” the call at another phone. If you are ever asked to pick up a call these are the procedures you would follow:

    Parking a call with a system phone

    1. While on a live call, press Transfer.
    2. Press the button next to Call Park.
    3. Press Transfer again.
    4. This will park the caller on your extension number.
    5. The call can be picked up at any other station by pressing the Pickup Park button followed by your extension number.

    Pick-up a parked call from a system phone

    1. Lift the receiver.
    2. Press the Pickup Park button.
    3. Dial the extension number you were told to pickup.

    Pick-up a parked call from an analog phone

    1. Lift the receiver.
    2. Dial #99.
    3. Dial the extension number you were told to pickup.

    Group call pick-up – if you are part of a pick-up group

    1. Press the right arrow button to scroll to the next screen.
    2. Push the button next to Group Pickup.
    3. This will answer calls on any phone within your group.

    Directed call pick-up – for phones not in the pick-up group

    1. Lift your receiver.
    2. Dial *32.
    3. Dial the 4 digit extension number of the phone that is ringing.

    Emergency Call Button

    1. Press the Emergency Call button to call Public Safety.
