Multi-Factor Authentication for Office 365 - Southwestern Illinois College

Southwestern Illinois College IT Division will be implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for accessing the student Office 365 (O365) tenant.  This includes student.swic.edu email, D2L Brightspace, Teams and any additional O365 apps used.

WHO?

MFA will be implemented for all student accounts.

WHY?

MFA increases security because it helps to verify the student’s identity by using a second factor, such as your phone, to complete authentication to SWIC’s network.

WHEN?

MFA will be automatically turned on for all students Monday, May 22, 2023.

WHERE TO GET HELP?

IT has created documentation and trained Technical Assistance staff and the library staff to assist with device set up.

DO I HAVE TO USE MY OWN PHONE FOR AUTHENTICATION?

To access SWIC resources after May 21, all students must use some form of secondary authentication. The access can be verified using either the Microsoft or Google Authenticator app on your phone (preferred and easiest method). Any applicable charges will not be reimbursed by SWIC.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

Each student will be prompted to set up the secondary method from Microsoft automatically on May 22, 2023.  Another email will be sent with help documentation with the go-live announcement on the 22nd.  If the student has problems following the steps, contact the Network Operation Center by phone at 618-222-SWIC, by email at Tech.Assistance@swic.edu, or in-person one of the campus libraries for assistance.

Thank you for your assistance in keeping SWIC’s network safe.
