Student Disciplinary Action - Southwestern Illinois College

Student conduct on campus and at all campus-sponsored activities is governed by the rules of the community. Violations of federal, state and local laws at any college-sponsored activity, on or off-campus, will be considered a violation of the Student Conduct Code and violators will be subject to disciplinary action. College policy, evidenced through the Student Conduct Code, specifies that acts of social misconduct should be reported to appropriate college officials or civil authorities.
In addition to criminal action taken by civil authorities on behalf of the victim, the college may impose the following sanctions upon the offender: disciplinary reprimand, assessment of restitution, probation, social probation, suspension, expulsion, separations or restrictions. Students who feel threatened or intimidated, who are harmed, or who observe violations of the Student Conduct Code may report the incident as appropriate:

For academic matters: To the instructor, coordinator/department head or dean. For matters of safety or security: To the DPS, Campus Security Authority or campus administrative office. Examples include, but are not limited to: criminal acts or social misconduct such as sexual assault, physical abuse, direct threat of violence, harassment and intimidation or behavior representing a danger to others. In general: To an administrator, faculty member, or staff member for assistance and referral.

Information for Crime Victims about Disciplinary Proceedings: In accordance with the Higher Education Act of 2008, any disciplinary proceedings conducted on or after Aug. 14, 2009, upon written request, Southwestern Illinois College must disclose the results of any disciplinary proceeding to the alleged victim of any crime of violence, or nonforcible sex offense, against a student who is the alleged perpetrator of such offense. If the alleged victim is deceased as a result of the crime or offense, the information shall be provided, upon request, to the next of kin of the alleged victim. Violence is defined in accordance with Illinois Compiled Statues and/or the Southwestern Illinois College Campus Violence Prevention Plan. Nonforcible sex offense is defined in Appendix 1 of this Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report. Written request shall be submitted to the assistant vice president for Student Development.
