About the Program
The Marketing program at Southwestern Illinois College will prepare you for a variety of positions including: consumer and business products sales for small to medium companies; retail sales management; merchandising or customer service.
Marketing is one of the largest business activities in terms of total employment, variety of jobs and range of pay. It includes advertising and public relations, retail merchandising, physical distribution, selling and market research.
In this program you will study business math, basic sales techniques, principles of management, consumer behavior, business ethics and business law.
You may choose an emphasis in graphics or general marketing through selection of electives. You also may choose a 16-hour certificate program if you have an academic and/or career background outside of business and want to add business coursework to your resumé.
Instructors for the program have business experience and bring that experience to the classroom for lively discussion and application of textbook theory. Students develop skills in a variety of areas including: communications, analysis and teamwork – all of which are critical to success in marketing.

Associate in Applied Science – Marketing (0031)
This program provides the academic background to begin a career in business. Students may choose an emphasis in graphics or general marketing through selection of electives. View Curriculum>>
Certificate (031E)
The Marketing certificate allows students outside of the business area to gain recognition for completing a core course of study in marketing. The certificate will benefit students in two year non-business programs as well as four-year students who wish to have background in marketing.

Accelerated Degree Option
Anyone who has completed an associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college may earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Marketing by completing 27 semester hours of business courses. Contact the program coordinator to select the 27 hours of coursework and to complete the appropriate form.
Admission Procedures
All applicants are advised to see a counselor upon making application for entrance into the college.
MISSION SUCCESS
Students interested in a degree program need to participate in MISSION SUCCESS, an assessment, welcome and counseling program designed to assist you with entry to Southwestern.
COMPASS, a computerized assessment program designed to identify your skill levels in math, reading and language usage, is the first step in MISSION SUCCESS. Next, the welcome session provides you with information about the college, its resources and services. In the counseling session, you can discuss your academic needs and plans with a counselor. You will receive an interpretation of your assessment scores so that you can prepare to register for classes.
Admission to the program
The admission procedures for the Marketing program are described fully in Southwestern's catalog and are in accordance with Illinois law.
Enrollment in Southwestern's Marketing program is open to individuals who have earned a high school diploma, are transferring from another college or university or have earned a GED certificate.
Students earning degrees in Art, Journalism, Desktop Publishing, Office Administration and Technology and other related fields may wish to consider a dual degree in Marketing.

Tuition and Financial Aid
For the current tuition rate, contact Southwestern's Counseling Office at (618) 235-2700, ext. 5206. A student in the Marketing program will spend about $3,400 in tuition to complete the two-year program. Lab fees are charged for the classes in which equipment is used. Southwestern's tuition and fees are subject to change at any time. All applicants to the college pay a one-time, nonrefundable application fee of $10.

Graduation Requirements
Specific graduation requirements are listed in the front section of Southwestern Illinois College's catalog. You must complete 64 credit hours to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Marketing. The courses may be completed in two years for full-time students. Contact the Business Division office for a marketing course master schedule to determine course availability.
