Mathematics
All students take a mathematics placement test before enrolling for the first time in a mathematics course at Southwestern Illinois College, or they must submit a transcript indicating successful completion of a college-level mathematics course.
A grade of "C" or better is needed to advance to the next higher math course. Use of the appropriate calculator, as recommended by the instructor, is required in classes at or above the 100 level.
As society has become more technical, many professions are requiring additional mathematical skills. Some of the fastest growing and highest paying fields require individuals with sophisticated mathematical competence, as well as other communication skills.
