As a Sheet Metal Fabricator specializing in custom trailers, you will be responsible for the precise fabrication and assembly of various sheet metal components used in the construction of custom trailers. Your role will involve interpreting design blueprints, selecting appropriate materials, utilizing specialized equipment, and ensuring the highest quality standards in the fabrication process.
This work environment is dynamic and versatile in nature, where employees are expected to wear multiple hats and handle a variety of tasks. This role requires a high level of adaptability, as daily tasks and priorities may shift based on the evolving needs of the day.


Primary Responsibilities:
• Review and interpret detailed design blueprints and specifications to understand the requirements for custom trailer fabrication.
• Select appropriate sheet metal materials based on project specifications, considering factors such as strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Perform tasks in sanding, grinding and polishing surfaces to prepare for final inspection.
• Utilize cutting tools such as shears to accurately cut and shape sheet metal according to design specifications.
• Employ various forming and bending techniques, including press brakes and rollers, to shape sheet metal components into the desired configurations.
• Conduct thorough inspections of fabricated components to verify dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and adherence to quality standards.
• Identify and troubleshoot any issues or discrepancies encountered during the fabrication process, implementing corrective measures as necessary to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with design engineers, production managers, and other team members to communicate progress, address concerns, and ensure timely completion of projects.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries in the fabrication workshop.


Required Skills:
• High School Diploma or equivalent with 1 – 2 years of experience as a sheet metal fabricator.
• Must demonstrate a consistent work history, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to display mechanical aptitude and use basic hand tools such as a tape measure, level, drill, etc.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of sheet metal materials, cutting techniques, and forming processes.
• Familiarity with a range of fabrication equipment, including shears, stays, and rollers.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team, demonstrating excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
• Ensure compliance with a safety mindset.


Preferred Skills:
• Perform welding and joining operations to assemble sheet metal components into sub-assemblies or complete trailer structures, ensuring structural integrity and precision.
• Certification or training in sheet metal fabrication, welding, or a related discipline.
• Sheet metal experience in custom trailer, construction or a related field.
• Brake press and manual brake experience.
• Hydraulics experience.
• 12-volt wiring experience.
• Glass installation experience.


Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to remain in a stationary standing position for up to 8 hours a day.
• Ability to ascend/descend ladder and climb in and out of trailers as well as work out of a man lift.
• Physically able to move and transport up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to bend, grip and move fingers/hands.
• Must have the ability to hear and respond to auditory signals, distinguish tones and pitches in equipment, and use hearing protection during specific tasks.
• Very occasional travel (0-5%) may be required for on-site assistance/repair.
