We have immediate openings for Aluminum Finishing Slitter Operators to be responsible for following all Job Safety Analysis, Standard Work Instructions, and Quality requirements to safely cut high quality aluminum coils to meet daily production schedules. Monitor and control the slitting operations performed using the proper tools provided to measure parts to meet production specifications and customer requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with company policies.
- Run rolls of aluminum and put them in the desired unwind position as dictated per the specification.
- Observes the aluminum slitting process by carefully looking for any quality defects and/or safety concerns and reporting any identified issues to the designated individuals.
- Remove defective material and splice the roll web back together per specification.
- Monitor machine calibrations and adjust as required.
- Change tooling and knives based on product width to meet production demands/daily goals.
- Perform slitter setups, changing heads/shafts and associated tasks.
- Metal movement and core placement at the exit end of the slitting line
- Using overhead cranes and forklift trucks safely to transport metal and materials to and from the slitter as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the lines.
- Performing incidental maintenance and inspections on the slitter as required.
- Performing clerical work (both paper and computer-based) to identify incoming metal quality, process quality problems, report time and production
- Using machines and hand tools as required, finish-pack products, attend to the scrap ballers, operate all equipment and processes to the requirements of a comprehensive quality system.
- Participating in continuous improvement teams, Gateway Aluminum Safety Programs, audits, and other activities as required
- Cutting test samples and conducting quality control activities as required
- Assisting other Finishing and Packing associates in maintaining the slitter and packing areas in a clean, orderly, safe environmentally sound condition.
- Performs various additional quality checks and production verification activities such as verifying the width/weight of coils and then submitting that information for entry into manual or electronic system.
- Maintain contact with the other Slitter Operators and/or Shift Supervisor ensuring they are aware of any problems or difficulties that arise during the slitting process.
- Performs other functions and duties as needed or requested.
- Adheres to all applicable attendance and safety policies.
- Adhere to all JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis) and Standard Work Instructions.
- Assist in writing and reviewing operational and safety JSAs to improve procedures as well as develop new JSAs based on observations and experiences.
- Assist maintenance team with diagnosis and troubleshooting issues with the equipment.
- Communicate effectively at all levels.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to work Rotating Shifts.
- Ability to work various Schedules such as 10 hours, 3 shift and 4 shift schedules.
- Ability to work 12-hour Shifts.
- Ability to work Mandatory Overtime.
- Ability to work Weekends and Holidays.
- Basic Microsoft Computer skills
- Basic Math Skills
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision or in a team environment.
- Diligence with the ability to identify defects and suggest corrections.
- May be required to wear supplied Fire-Retardant Specialized clothing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle many concurrent activities while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Safely operate mobile equipment including but not limited to forklifts, ariel lifts, and overhead cranes.
- Ability to read and comprehend applicable part prints and similar schematics preferred.
- Ability to read and follow complex production orders and understand applicable trouble shooting practices preferred.
- Ability to utilize heavy equipment based on established protocols and job-related needs preferred.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
- High school diploma or GED
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to perform all essential physical functions of working in a manufacturing environment such as climbing, standing, bending, reaching, and squatting.
- Hands to finger use – fine motor skills such as, turning, grasping, pinching, wrapping, writing, typing, etc.
- Must be able to lift to fifty pounds.
