Computer Literacy Prerequisite - Southwestern Illinois College

Proof of Completion of Prerequisite Courses: Computer Literacy

Students must demonstrate basic competency in computer literacy through successful completion of one of the following options:
Option One: Computer Literacy Test

A computer literacy test must be completed with a score no lower than 75 percent.*

The computer literacy test is available at any of the SWIC Testing Centers. Call to arrange an appointment at any of the following campuses:

Belleville

Students are limited to one attempt to pass the computer literacy test and must bring a photo ID on the day of testing.
Option Two: Complete OAT 146

Complete OAT 146 – Computer Applications for the Office with a grade of “C” or better.*
Option Three: Complete a combination of three OAT courses

Complete the following courses with a grade of “C” or better:*

  • OAT 130 – Word Processing Basics (or OAT 171 – Keyboarding & Document Processing I)
  • OAT 131 – Database Basics
  • OAT 132 – Electronic Spreadsheet Basics

*Note: Higher grades and higher scores earn more application points.
